I took this photo in the early morning as the sun had just risen. I had managed to get out in one of the traditional rowing boats on my own after spending the day before in occasional negotiation with the local boatmen. If you ever get the chance Varanasi, the 'eternal city' is well worth a detour to see. It is a magical place lots of spirituality, being a top pilgrimage site and situated on the banks of the Ganges. There are many ghats (the steps leading down to the water where the faithful can bathe) including two 'burning' ghats where open air cremations take place.
